Gilbert and Sullivan's SORCERER was their second attempt at a full-length operetta, after the now forgotten THESPIS. It was a success, and introduced Gilbert's penchant for using a device to create unusual situations his characters would have to get out of. The repressed nature of Victorian society gave him the ideal foil to play against.
In Act 2, manners are turned upside down by a love potion that now joins Sir Marmaduke Thomas Petiet) to Mrs. Partlett (Patricia Petiet) an unlikely combination, the unlikeliest pair in social standing. Dr. Daly (Matt Grace), Alexis (Barry Nayback) and Aline (Leah Fitschen) are stunned by the result, but nonetheless extol the virtues of love in a quintet.
