Just about 38 people per square mile live on this gem of an island. Amorgos is most famous for spectacular views from solitary paths leading hikers along steep cliffs above the intensely blue sea (coincidentally, large parts of Luc Besson's cult movie "Le Grand Bleu" were shot here). Featured in the same movie is the glaringly white monastery Panagia Chozoviotissa which is attached to the rock some 300 meters above the ocean. Katapola is a charming seaport with just a few hundred inhabitants and Chora village, 400 meters above, is a maze of tranquil alleys with cosy taverns and a great view of the island...

  • That's funny - I really like your comment ;-) Amorgos is a place that's certainly worth a second visit...

  • does anyone know the exact location for the opening boy running over rocks scene was filmed for the big blue im assuning it was somewhere on amorgos

  • Thanks for your comment. This must be somewhere near the monastery Panagia Chozoviotissa which is also featured in my vlog: starting 4:45. The scene was definitely shot on the east coast of Amorgos which is where the monastery is situated...

Yes, I did. It´s in a little bay on the southern end of the island. We were snorkeling around it - fantastic island, I have to come back! :)

  • Great soundtrack. Great film. Great location. :-)

  • this cult movie should have been dedicated to Paul Shenar

  • Katapola was the location of the first scenes with the boys running to the harbour and dive for the coin?

  • Congratulations for the video and thanks for sharing with us, Big Blue lovers.

  • @manhattan77 definitely!
