First lap out on a recent trackday I worked on at Castle Combe. Came upon an oil slick on the exit of Bobbies (Westway) just dropped by an MG. Speed at the time was 87mph and although it doesn't look that spectacular it could have been a big crash as there is no real run off there.

Car is a Lotus Elise S2 with Honda engine conversation (about 210-215bhp) running on Toyo T1Rs (Road Tyres). Driver is me, Malcolm Edeson, Chief Instructor for Lotus-on-Track and Senior Instructor with the Racing School, also Professional Trackday and Race Driver Coach (www.driver-coaching.com).

Data-Logger is a Race Technology DL1, data overlay software is Trackvision Desktop.

  • GOOD WORK!! I am going to Castle Combe for the first time in August, a friend is also going with his car (we both have Nissan 370z's) Is it an easy track to learn? and any tips would be greatly appreciated...

  • @MagicAyrtonforever - Thanks for watching and commenting. I have some much more up to date onboard videos from Combe, there is a Lotus one that is about the best. Combe is not that technical but it's a ballsy circuit, the reason being there are 4 area where, if you go off you are likely to hit something solid .. and at quite high speed. Make sure you are 100% confident with the line before you start to push and don't be tempted to try making up time by braking late for Quarry, wall has the scars

  • Video Response above (01:46) is the quickest lap of the day, lost about .20 having to take a different line through Westway to avoid the oil.

  • Video Response above (04:41) is of 3 full laps at decent pace (with passenger), done on the same day.

  • I've seen bigger slides in a kindergarden playground for dwarfs.

  • OMG that was big, how did you hold it?
