Hilarious! I remember it all so well! We HAD to laugh to cope with the fact this imbecile was one heartbeat away from the Presidency. Here's one of the jokes proliferating at the time: "Ever hear of Quayle bonds? No principle, no interest, and they never mature." Here's another tidbit: Talking about how he was going on a trip to Latin America he said "I don't know how I'll get by because I don't speak Latin".
Thanks SO MUCH for posting. I laughed so hard I cried.

You Americans should elect this guy as your next president.

Unfortunately we do not get to pick the VP. Also we do not get to pick the presidential candidates either...we only get to pick from them. So if there are nothing but dumbasses in the running for the next election then we really have little choice but to choose a dumbass to be our president.

@AvoinTarina You misspelled politics, you smart person.

its quite genius actually. Bush picked Quayle so that nobody in their right mind would kill him in order for Quayle to become president
-
@newmark401 people vote for the 'ticket' in that case Bush/Quayle

Those quotations make Sarah Palin look rather intelligent...
-
It's obvious now that Bush Sr. picked Quayle because he reminded him of GW...

@AvoinTarina Well, he was not voted VP, he was chosen as a VP by Bush who went on to win against another unelectable Democrat. However, you're right to descend American politics in flames. The most caricatural of "hillbilly" candidate get elected. We Europeans have a much tougher stance on issues and presentation, not on one's beliefs or thoughts...
Is this a joke?? How does a guy like that get elected Vice Pres.? You americans must love a good laugh. Vote for the dumbest guy and poletics actually become funny. Tragic but funny...

I don't think Quayle was literally elected vice president, I think Bush Snr chose him as his running mate in 1988, so Quayle became vice president when Bush Snr became president. I think that's how it works.
