This is my first poi video ever, and one of the most watched on the internet. Filmed in April 2006, this is one spontaneous burn. Unplanned, no choreography, just rocking out.

Note: The momentum of flow arts has grown exponentially, our history should not be taken for granted. There were no fire festivals, there were few "instructors", and fire was very much on the fringe. The tricks we know today were forged by the innovation of others from NOTHING but exploration and imagination. This marks the advent of meltdowns and fire videos. Today we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. Its always easier when there is someone (even hundreds) who can show the way.

but thats exactly what i'm saying! that means any old weirdo with a pair of poi could come along and flail around and the mass public will applaud. where does that leave the true visionaries who are trying change the world with flow arts and who are truly skilled? (granted Zan IS on of them, i know.) and as far as the "newcomer senario" -- would you really back-track to please the public. i sure wont give up my plane control and isolations to get more views on youtube.

If a fire eating newcomer got famous, I would attempt to learn what he is doing to captivate everyone in the same manner. His performance was very high-risk, and that's why everyone loves it. Nick Woolsey, the God of fire poi is obviously one of the best spinners out there, but a skillful performance doesnt entertain as much as a flaming backflip off a shed, leading to a whirling fire ring rolling up your chest lol. It's all about perception bro, skillful fire spinning < beautiful and risky spin

I understand where you're coming from. i'm NOT saying this video/performance SUCKS. i was only speculating as to why it has so many views compared to others that are way more skillful and far in excess of beauty. one fire eater to another, how would you feel if a complete newcomer to the skill suddenly became famous? sure -- good for him -- but doesnt that say something about the audience. hell! just watch television! c'mon dont kid yourself. the classlessness of the western world is blatant!

It is not being brainwashed or a sheep to enjoy a spectacular fire show that probably took years to learn. It looks beautiful, skillful, and impressive. It has nothing to do with being marshmallow-minded, it is human-nature to enjoy a beautiful performance such as this. I, myself am a fire-eater. I'm not a pro, and far from being it. I have much to learn, but when I perform, people are dazzled and stunned. Please understand why everyone enjoys this video now.

I have to agree with you. His plane control is quite bad in this video, but at the same time it is six years old. Im sure now he is much more fluid and technical but I am also confused how this got almost 1 million views. Good job smooth walking and everything like that but his meltdowns and everything else should be on much cleaner planes. Ive only been at it for six months and I have much better control than this, not to toot my own horn but its true. PeterCarmo16 isnt hating. its honesty
