Ok update: The problem was a cracked lower intake manifold. Surprisingly the upper intake was fine. The EGR passage wasnt in bad shape at all. It was still sealed. But the lower intake was sucking oil and water in the wrong places.

  • the issue is it's a series 2 3800. I'm changing out a 3800 in 2000 grand prix and it had oil in the same spot. GM was involved in a class action law suit due to how problematic those engines were. mine was seized. and as i started pulling it apart I found that the overall lack of build quality was utterly disturbing. the engine is naturally asperated. the older 3800's were awsome engines no clue why GM down graded to the turdy eight hundred series 2.

  • @weelgunny That is pretty much right, the oil seen is from PCV Blowback...

  • @hellobitch1000 The coolant elbows can break down over time due to heat, and possibly Dex-Cool if the cooling system was improperly maintained, if air gets trapped in the system the Dex-Cool can become more acidic, the EHA-2 in it is a known plasticizing agent, so that could be part of the reason they fail eventually.. Mine fell apart when I took it out, when you remove the belt tensioner be careful not to break the lower aluminum nipple that comes out of it..

  • My guess is; condenced oil fumes through the PCV circuit.

  • my friend and i replaced the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, thermostat, water pump, coolant, and changed the oil. the intake is not leaking anywhere but yet the car still overheats.. what could be the problem now?

  • i have a question n all 3.8 series 2 owners help. the elbow heater hose keeps crackn on my car, im pretty sure everybody knows what im talkn about, let me know if anybody has changed it and hasnt had trouble with it

  • I have a 96' Park Ave with that same engine, and I found oil in both places as well, it's where each "hidden bolt: is.

I am pretty sure my LIM gasket failed, because it fell apart when I took it off, let me rephrase that, it somewhat disintegrated, lol

I did not find any signs of antifreeze in the oil though, seems more like gas in my case.

  • I have a 97 grand prix I started taking apart today. I am thinking the Lower intake manifold gasket may be my problem. I have bad overheating but my oil isnt milky.

  • I had the same problem when replacing my upper intake, i was helping a family friend who was doing the job because he has done it b4 amd soo i just cleaned it out and said fuck it

  • @thetruejay20 are you talking about zzperformance?
