Megan and Andre took a kayak trip though the Broken Islands Group in Barkley Sound off of western Vancouver Island in May 2007. Barkley Sound is between the towns of Ucluelet and Bamfield on the western coast of British Columbia, Canada. There are stills and video clips (and maps) of the calm ocean, eagles, sea lions and bears, sea caves, as well as the fun of kayak camping. Also some shots of Pacific Rim National Park, Green Point campground, and spectacular Long Beach, set to the music of Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble, with fellow Canadian Sarah McLachlan thrown in at the end for good measure.

  • With a mug of hot tea and this vid playing I was in Canadiana heaven. What make of kayak are you using? It looks to hold quite abit of gear judging by the large tent and camp gear. Thanks for posting the good stuff!

  • Mine is the yellow one, a Nimbus Horizon (over ten years old) which I pack well, but it's always easier with multiple boats.

  • Hi Andre, I teach English in Saskatchewan and was starting a unit on Canada's land and diversity and used your video as a motivational set to set the mood before looking at a poem about all the parts of Canada.

  • Hello! I am glad you could use the video to motivate. (wasn't it just really Robbie Robertson's amazing musical collaboration which set the mood!?) I am happy my little Canon camera can capture such cool snippets of our wonderful country, and that you could share it with people learning about Canada. Good on you!
