Is THIS version of the song available anywhere? Every version of the song that I've heard was recorded much later. Rick's voice doesn't sound as youthful as in this version.

It's on the selftitled album from 1977. There are copies both on amazon and ebay. If you want to buy it you can get it from one of those places.

The best part of the movie, imo, amazingly evocative and heartfelt. That scene where Rick bows his head as he hears the strains of this song, where he knows that it'll always be about the music, but that his era with the Band is gone, to where he' ll go, he doesn't know. But he went anyway, and this song was just a beautiful accent to a love/time gone by. Very well done...

They didn't want to break up, Robbie did. He wanted to pursue his solo career, so he concocted the whole "Last Waltz" thing without anyone really having a say, which is one of several reasons for the animosity between him and Levon in later years. You can sense the uncertainty and disappointment in Rick's voice when he says "trying to stay busy." That answer, and those seconds of hesitation before he gives it, are probably the most heartbreaking part of the movie.

Probably the most beautiful and saddest scene simultaneously. Miss you Rick, thanks for everything.

Saddest part of the movie. I really want to know. Do Scorsese want to ask another question to Rick or is he directing the camera when is finger slowly moves to Rick.
