David Niven. Not even a streaker at the Oscars can make him lose his aplomb, or his extremely fast wit.

Wow- to be able to be that cool and quick-witted under pressure and to get a bigger audience reaction than a streaker shows an unusual amount of intelligence and charisma.

streakers aren't funny, just creepy. Glad when they get made fun of.

And Elizabeth Taylor as a presenter standing next to David Niven said:That's a hard act to follow.:-))

There is a very interesting documentary about the streaker in this clip titled UNCLE BOB. His name was Robert Opel and he was a gay San Francisco photographer, gallery owner and part time political activist who was murdered in 1979.

I have read in various sources that this was staged. David Niven knew about it. So, although his line is hilarious, it was not really impromptu.

Whenever I want to feel good about life again, I watch a David Niven movie--he was so elegant & fun (kind of like an uncomplicated Cary Grant)--although Niven certainly could portray sadness as in Separate Tables--one feels that things will turn out alright. I adore Nivens crisp get-on-with-it style & positive attitude towards life--& the man had a lot to feel down about--he just didn't let it get to him for long. His close friend Robert Wagner admired this happiness. Here's to you Mr. Niven!

What David Niven should have said: "I wasn't aware that the Academy had an Oscar category for Best Short Subject..."
