1.You have to realize the difference between geosynchronous and LEO (low earth orbit) satellite (not that I'm implying you don't) to completely understand the advantage. To make it real simple, Iridium used 66 satellite and constantly rotate around the world 1400 miles away, Inmarsat has 3-4 satellite 22,000 thousand miles away from earth. That is just one example!

True, but not many people actually travel to either North or South pole! Other than than it pretty much covers all continents and all oceans which is good for most travelers like myself. On the the plus side the price of the handset is less than half of an Iridium 9555. The prepaid minutes are as low as $20 USD, and the actual postpaid plan start from $20 USD as well!
That is music to my ear!

the inmarsat isatphone pro still uses geo-stationary satellites, which means it doesnt have true global coverage, because the satelites cant reach the polar regions, and for this reason, will never be as good as the iridium
