Ubiquitous Computing: Big Brother's All-Seeing Eye - Part 1

An "Everyware" world, as Adam Greenfield calls it, is a world in which computers are embedded and merged seamlessly everywhere in the environment. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags communicate their position and other information constantly in a vast network. Everyday objects become "searchable" as if they were part of the interconnected world wide web. In this interconnected internet of things, scientific management and surveillance of people and the environment we inhabit becomes possible, and marketers' ultimate dreams come true.

The makers of this video, and the scared fools who make up most of the comments here, are quite ignorant. Misunderstanding this stuff is leading to a lot of fear and hate against technology.

But you cannot stop the progress of this stuff, no matter how much you try to resist.

Humans make tools, it's what we do best, and ubiquitous technology is just a tool.

What you should fight, is the people who would abuse these tools, not the tools themselves! Because you can't stop technology's progress.

Speaking for myself (the maker of this video), I can say that I'm not against technology at all. Like you said, technology is a tool. It can and likely will be abused. One of my issues is that we need to have a discussion about advancing technologies. One thing that I've noticed - correct me if I'm wrong - is that the ethical discussions that take place regarding advancing technology often take place within a limited panel of experts and leave the people that will be impacted out of the loop.

my issue with ubiquitous living is our system is imperfect. So everything is digital, everything is linked. we have a power outage and u cant get out ur house because ur server is down. u cant buy food. problem? or worse 2 ubiqutous computers ... i mean countries sorry. go to war! china vs america all of a sudden washington is flooded with access attacks so is beijing. nothing is working and if it is its working at 50% efficiency the servers go down. people cant do anything. we are only ever a f

I have a report to due on this topic but the more I learn about Ubiquitous computing, living reminds me more of Minority Reports. Consumers demand convience in their daily usage of technology and this is what we're gonna get. I don;t know about this shit.
