Saw this car on the trailer at the Monterey Historics, i kept going back and looking at it.

I'm not sure how many still are around, but i'm almost 100% positive that only 22 were made. But 22 or 26....They're rare. Haha.

Can you upload it to Youtube and post a video reply to this video? I'd like to hear it running.

There were 4 prototypes built, designated R1, R2, R3 and R4. R3 and R4 are well known and seen regularly - sorry barn hunters. This car could be R1 (chassis 305876) but several details are wrong - deck lid/single coil/no side oil filler. More likely an 'S'. Beautiful car though.

Interesting info. It contradicts the information the gentleman representing this car at Amelia Island was producing. Can you give any reference or links to back up your statement?
-Thanks

I can certainly point you to a number of magazines (Porsche Panorama - Mar 07/27, GT Purely Porsche - Feb 05, Classic Car (UK) - Dec 05, 911&Porsche World - Jul 07) and I recall that Ernie Wilberg had quite a good resource on PBase (Google Ernie).
If you post a sacrificial email address I can send you quite a bit of stuff on the protos.
It's worth noting that the protos differed from the production models, with R4 being closest to production. Chassis # is definitive with the protos.

Thank you for the references. I enjoy seeking/finding the definitive history on these cars.

My research show's 26 911R's (we're close). As shown in this video, of the prototypes that pre-date the 911R there were apx. 5 known to exist...
