  • so actually u can instal any GPU on mac pro right ?

cuz mac are selling some but too expensive !

  • @GICTechTV Not exactly. First off, you are limited in power. The Mac Pro has only two 6-pin power connectors available to power your card.

Second, you are limited by OS. The GTX 285 Mac Edition is a card specially made by EVGA to work with the Mac OS. If you were to pop in, say, an off-the-shelf gpu made for PC, you wouldn't be able to boot into Mac OS. If you had Windows installed instead of Mac OS though (w/ bootcamp), you would be able too. Though in that case, why not just buy a PC?

  • So, you just don't use Mac OSX?

  • @cprALexe This is a GTX 285 made by EVGA specifically for MAC OS X.

  • so why did you install that in a Mac?

  • To play games (through bootcamp)?

  • wow that music was extremely annoying and unnecessary

  • @Hokrollo1 yea Firmware updates are really rare for Macs

  • @Mas7erChief117

Well you don't HAVE to update your drivers. But if you want best compatible hardware you need to. But often drivers only covers optimizing for like 3-4 games anyway, so.

  • @Hokrollo1 well there really isn't a difference, Drivers and Firmware updates are basically the same thing. at this point tho cause Windows machines are used for gaming more often than Macs, they get driver updates more often. Macs only get firmware updates when necessary

  • @Mas7erChief117

I never updated my DX or done anything with BIOS - DX 11 is pretty much automatic for all games that support it so. And what's the difference exactly on having to install firmware instead of drivers?:P

  • @Hokrollo1 no, there are firmware updates that deal with that stuff, but when you install a new video card on a Mac, it's usually PnP. where as on a windows machine, you would have to install the card, install drivers, mess with BIOS settings, update DX, and etc

  • @Mas7erChief117

Sounds pretty bad. So no chance to fix bugs in games for certain cards or what? Because that's pretty crappy lol.

  • @UnholyMist

You can't change PSU in a Mac? But also you're limited in terms of cards as only few high end cards are made for macs.

  • @professionalrax you must remember you are using a Mac, you don't have to worry about drivers

  • nice!
