@christinehowerton In other cold areas such as Siberia, Alaska, Greenland etc, there is still alot of sun which shines off the ice & snow making for alot of UV radiation making dark skin more suitable, however in Europe, its usually dreary, gray cloudy with little UV radiation which means that a lighter skin is needed to be able to take in the small amount of UV radiation for Vitamin D production.

@icecoldisaac86 Knowing that some did breed along with us making it in reterospect that they did not truly die out - would they have survived on there own in a different senario? are their genetics pratically the same as ours? If it was just them and not the homo sapians, I love the idea that Neanderthals are within us, I have been facinated by them since I can remember.

White europeans, and everyone outside africa (inc some in africa) has neanderthal genetics. It was a simple case of hybridised outbreeding. Not a genetic cleansing.

This has really opened my eyes to evolution and that it can be a lot more interesting yet complicated. Taking this into consideration, I have a question, if Neanderthals hadnt of died out (whether be through the homosapians, unable to keep up with ever changing environment or Disease) would they have evolved and eventually manage to create a society like our own or would there genetics not have the ability?

@christinehowerton Because red hair is a mutation that happened to occur and spread in Europe. Red hair was also found in central asia for some 1000-2000 years ago (tocharians among others). So it is technically not only Europe that has it, even though most of redheads are of european descent
