There was a water main break at Snyder and Randall Avenues Thursday night around 6 o'clock. Newschannel 5 spoke with Casey Whitman with the board of public utilities this morning and he said an 8-inch plug on the side of the nearly 80-year old main burst open, causing the rush of water. Casey said, "Age could have played a factor in the break, since the structural integrity is not great, but that these things can happen even on newer utilities." Whitman also said the break is affecting a few dozen homes in a 10-block area. Crews have been working all night and the situation has actually gotten worse, since a piece of concrete fell on another 6-inch water main running parallel to the 30-inch main. Initially, Whitman said the water would be contained this morning, but now it looks like it won't be fixed until tomorrow. This morning (9/24) 5 crew members were working to fix the break. They were relieved by another crew at 7 am.
