On Friday, January 20, 2012, the new Indian River Inlet Bridge opened to traffic for the first time. At a news conference, Transportation Secretary Shailen Bhatt was joined by Governor Jack Markell, U.S. Senator Tom Carper, and Senior Vice President of Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc. Bob Rose to make the announcement that southbound traffic was going to be shifted to the bridge that day, with northbound traffic shifting before the end of January. Following the press conference, Secretary Bhatt, Governor Markell, Senator Carper, Project Manager Doug Robb and other VIP's took the first ceremonial drive over the new bridge. This video also includes a "windshield view" drive-over of the new bridge.
