  • I dont doubt the Royal Navy is the second most powerful navy in the world, I simply meant people should distinguish the difference between "Best" and "Most Powerful"

  • best navy in the world but the us are the most powerful but look at the size of there country and then look at the uk the us is big big big so i think the royal navy are doing well

  • Best navy in the world, Not the most powerful.

  • royal navy best navy in the world can't wait till i go in the royal navy

  • the harrier isnt old, only 20 years old, the US has fighters over 35 years old, but the harrier is the only fighter that can lift off and land vertically whitch makes it special for royal navy aircover since it needs a short runway or a short take off with their ramps

Im american but i know a bit about the royal navy

  • Theres a clue in teh names GR Stands for Ground reconnaisance, FA stands for Fighter Attack, and im EX RN left in 2005.

  • Furthermore, the GR7 and GR9 RAF variants are Strike aircraft, NOT Air-to-Air Interceptors, and have on about 15% airframe in common with the FA2 and only carry a sidewinder missile for short range self-defence. stu100000, I am sorry mate but you are just plain wrong.

  • There is so much nonsense being put out here it's ridiculous. Are any of you in the Navy? Well I am, so shut up and listen; the FA2 had one of the most advanced radar (Blue Vixen) and missile (AMRAAM) combinations in the world enjoying a success ratio of 7 'kills' to 1, in 8 on 8 training engagements with F 15s in the USA. Outdated? Hardly.

  • very true, the harrier has proved itself, its sad to see a plane go, just like it will be sad to see Northwest's 9's go,also the 10's :-( but technology and even new breakthroughs makes this happen.

  • No Harriers have been retired from service lol, none at all not till 2013 which will make the harrier model almost 60 years old. slow and outdated by then. The x-35 is much better, more fuel efficient and that will mean more money for newer ships over time!
