Actually, Rosalind Franklin was a scientist. In fact, she was a biophysicist. She believed that information and knowledge ought to be shared openly, and was not concerned that she would be sharing it with her rivals (Crick and Watson). Many believe, had she not passed away, that the Nobel prize would have been shared with her, but alack, it cannot be awarded posthumously.

This is so embarrassing. Watson was shown Franklin's photograph 51 without her permission by Maurice Wilkins who hated her plus they knew that she had told them the link were on the inside. They did not work this out themselves. I hope he is proud of himself. It would have been OK if they had acknowledged her work and allowed her to join in the accolades. They did nothing until forced to do so. Not one of man's finest moments. No wonder Rosalind Franklin was not impressed with them.

Definitely. But I was referring to the fact that its molecular components had long been identified and it was also established to be "the genetic material". Franklin et al elucidated its crystal structure and the double helix strongly suggested the mechanism by which it is replicated. Almost every article about Watson and Crick claim they discovered DNA even though they didn't.
Not bashing Watson. I haven't done anything notable. Notable grapes taste sour.
