It just keeps going, and going, and going. No, it's not a battery. It's Irvin Gordon's 1966 Volvo P1800S. (July 9)

Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant. This car's mileage has been officially verified several times throughout its life. There is no doubt that it is genuine. I don't know where you live, but in North America averaging 300kms a day is not at all difficult. It happens more than you might think.

Well, actually the original 1961 and 1962 P1800s were built in England..., but otherwise you are generally correct. MaxOneMedia is grossly misinformed if he really believes Volvos are now made in China. Also, getting rid of his, presumably built before the purchase by Geely, seems completely pointless. Still, someone else presumably got to purchase a used Volvo, always a good thing.

I remember seeing this car in a classic car magazine nearly 20 years ago when it had around 2mill on it. Still going, that's crazy.

Gasoline has allways been very expensive in The Netherlands , thaks to the 70 % tax on gasoline . Thats why you see in Europe so many very small cars . A Caddilac Eldorado is just great but much to expensive to run in Europe on gasoline . U.S.A. oldtimer's run mostly on L.P.G. in Europe that is not so expensive .

Don't forget that this is in the US, so up until about 1999, the price of gasoline was dirt cheap, under a $1/gallon (roughly €0.20/litre, not taking inflation into account). If you assume an average price from 1966 to 1999 of $1/gal, and average price from 2000 to 2012 of $3/gal, it comes out to roughly $198474.30 (€150644.57), or $4314.66 (€3274.88) a year. I made tons of assumptions in my calculations, so don't quote me on that.

I think Irvin used about 480000 litres of petrol . In The Netherlands one litre cost 1,80 Euro so Irvin has a very expensive hobby . 480000 litres cost in The Netherlands only 864000 Euro , 70% tax included ! But I think Irvin had a lot of fun driving his Volvo .
