  • thanks for uploading this

  • @raggioceleste I'm amazed. I saw this last night on the telly. Charlton Heston was brilliant as always. There was an English actor playing his second in command who was also excellent. The whole scale of the thing, the filming, direction, was all fantastic and just to go unrewarded and not a film I have ever heard to referred as a classic when it undoubtedly is :(

  • Absolute classic! Chuck makes a great Englishman

  • My favorite movie. I saw it in college. Gen. Gordon is a very interesting character which history produced. If this movie interests you try some of Gordon's writing.

  • good movie, classic.

  • Olivier's performance is so over-the-top in this one I think he may have been cheesing it up deliberately. This was one of the last Cinerama movies, btw; that's why, like 3D movies, there are so many shots of things coming right at the audience. Otherwise, it is a movie that was old-fashioned when it was made. A good companion movie is another forgotten Chuck Heston costumed adventure, 55 Days at Peking, made a few years before.

  • Gordon Pasha will be with us shortly.

  • Heston and Olivier. A pair of chessmasters in a war of nerves. Historically, Gordon and Muhammed Achmet never actually met, but the letters between them provide the basis for their movie encounter

  • Thanks so much! I thought Ardrey's script was quite good. Khartoum isn't up to David Lean's standard but it was a really well-made movie.
