This interesting location on Chicago's impoverished West Side is where Union Pacific's ex-Chicago & North Western triple-track western mainline ducks under the triple-track Belt Railway of Chicago, just west of UP and Metra's shared California Avenue engine shops. There is a long, winding connector between the two lines starting at the shops and going up to the BRC, out of sight from here, and really only used by local jobs. The 1890s-vintage Lake Street Elevated segment of Chicago Transit Authority's Green Line crosses over the BRC bridge over Lake Street a block south of the UP/BRC crossing-- a bridge over a bridge. Metra's UP-West Line uses the UP tracks here on its way out to Elburn and into Chicago.

Train 1:
An six-car inbound Metra/UP-N Line train speeds under the Belt headed for Ogilvie Transportation Center (formerly Northwestern Station) in downtown Chicago, while...

Train 2:
An eastbound CTA Green Line train of four 2400-series cars heads for the Cicero Avenue station and ultimately, Harlem/Lake in Oak Park/River Forest.

Train 3:
Another four-car 2400 set heads to the Loop and Ashland/63rd or Cottage Grove/E 63rd, above Lake Street and over the Belt Rwy of Chicago.

Train 4:
UP ES44DC #5516 and SD70Ms #4658 and 4160 muscle a long intermodal train west under the Belt. ES44AC #7721 pushes in DPU mode.

Train 5:
Another Green Line CTA train heads east over the BRC.

Train 6:
Two Canadian Pacific AC4400CWs bring a manifest north on the Belt, heading for Cragin and ultimately, Milwaukee or the Twin Cities. The buildings they are passing to their left is the abandoned factory of Brachs Candies.

Train 7:
Now the Green Line has lengthened trains for the rush, as six 2400 cars head to the Loop and the South Side.

Train 8:
UP AC4400CWs #7156 and 7315 are in charge of a long ethanol train, heading east for the Western Avenue Corridor and somewhere beyond.

Train 9:
Metra F40PH #121, the "Will County", zips 7 cars on an early rush hour train headed west.
