This episode originally aired on March 11, 1954, and was adapted from an October 11, 1951 radio episode {Ben Alexander's "Officer Frank Smith" replaced Barton Yarborough's "Sgt. Ben Romero" in this version, as Yarborough died of a heart attack in December '51}. George Fenneman {best known as Groucho Marx's announcer on "YOU BET YOUR LIFE"} is Chesterfield's spokesman; Hal Gibney is the main announcer.
LIggett & Myers [Chesterfield, L&M (after 1954)] was the primary sponsor of "DRAGNET" on TV AND [through 1955,] radio; this is why there were endless scenes of Joe Friday, or other characters, puffing away, or offering someone else a cigarette {Liggett & Myers was one of those sponsors who believed their product should be "subtly" promoted during the episode, along with the commercials}.
@MIKECNW somethings strange about this print. It seems as if that was cut out. I think that Ford commercial was tacked on at the beginning, as I never saw anything but Chesterfiled or L&M as sponsors. You just can't tell with these public domain episodes floating around. I've seen a lot of the episodes mis-named also.
