http://www.MsCharme.com This activity fosters letter recognition out of the sequence of the abcs. A lot of children can identify the letters in order but having them trace and name the letters in the title of the book they chose teaches them to name the letters out of order. This is an important pre-literacy skill. As they trace the letters they also become more proficient with their fine motor skills needed for writing.
Parents love this activity because it gives them a connection with school as they read to their child their "homework". The kids, even the youngest ones in the class enjoy picking their own books and tracing the letters.
The next step would be teaching them the letter sounds. "What sound does that letter make?" They are on their way to reading!
This is great! You should consider entering this in the Mom's Choice Awards Category #907: YouTube Amateur Video Production.
