@generalpatton3 lumerians and atlantians were before Sumerians and their continents sank over 12000 years ago they were highly intelegent and had a thermonuclear war with each other.pyramids have been found under water just off the cost of japan witch could only have been built before the rising sea level in the last ice age.

@generalpatton3 Strange conclusion, humans had existed for tens of thousands of years before the sumerians, music was hardly invented by them :P. But I see what you're saying, though I think ancient music could very well have been just as complex as anything more modern.
Inadequate understanding of the notation seems plausible to me, but certainly this might be just how it was played. Either way it gives a hint. Thanks for sharing!

I've heard the same actually. Certain isolated ethnic groups continued a musical tradition much similar to this. You would have to look for the sources though - I don't remember where I read that... *shrugs*
How can I buy this album?

Search De Organographia on Amazon. They should be there. Dunno about iTunes though - I've never used it.

The musical performance seems very rigid. I assume that the musicians are playing according to the ancient notation from the tablets in cuneiform. But is it really the way it was once played? Of course this is impossible to say.
But to me at least it seams unlikely that it would be as strict and minimal as in this interpretation! Still beautiful music though

Well, the Sumerians were the first civilisation on Earth. I mean, music could not have sprung up fluid and complex right from the start. I am not really an expert on music, but I am a history major. So I cannot say much here.
But yes, we do have the Sumerian musical notation, much in contrast to the Greeks or Romans, who never developed a system that we know of. And we did translate the Sumerian notation eventually, after finding it in the 50s-60s in Iraq (by the French).
