@1958Gunner I ran out of comment space so I'm writing back again. Cpl Tipton a great guy and to hear he is gone just reminds me of how the world will have one less special person that would do what ever it took to help another person. He was a great leader in Weapons Co and I can tell you first hand he was a special guy.
To his family I say I'm sorry for your loss and the inspiration he gave me that day had lasted a life time.
@1958Gunner Hello My name is James Barnett, I had first hand experience with Cpl Tipton your brother.
He and I were together running around pulling people out of the burning huts, I can still remember him cutting his foot wide open on the drainage ditch, he was a champ and a great leader to me, I was just a newbie and he took care of the platoon. When all was said and done he remembered my actions and put me in as well for the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, I'm sad to hear he is gone.
Hope to hear back from you. My name is Jim Tipton. Retired Marine CWO5. My brother was Cpl Mark Tipton and was in the fire and received the Navy Marine Corps Medal. I was hoping to reach out to all those that may have known him. He died on the 29th of June. 2011. The fire and the Marines that served with him meant a great deal to him. Please contact me if you knew him or may have any pictures. jtipton@colt.com
I was there that day. I remember all of it, although this is the first Memorial Day that I have specifically remembered it. I was a peace-time marine but for this, and the hostages in Iran, but I do remember this. I knew some of the guys, killed or wounded, but not really. Maybe a pickup game of hoops. I was lucky, I was getting dressed to go help with the flooding when it started. I wasn't quite dressed when I went sliding dawn that hill, but I made it.
@kelperis Ric, please see the PMI sent you. I remeber you fromback then.
