This is a video to 'test the water'. After I recieve my degree I plan to create a business for Catholic youth who wish to participate in global and domestic missions.
The company would be designed to not only accompany youth in groups of 15 - 25 to a mission but to help the individuals raise money through fundraising. (I am also thinking about using a second-hand store in congontion with the main program to raise money throughout the year.)
But our company would go far beyond the mission...
It would begin in June by having missionaries congregate. In order to be effective missionaries they will need to act as a family. They would spend approximently four weeks at a base camp. At base camp they not only get to know each other but recieve intense spiritual training and eduacation about the culture to which they are traveling.
In late June they would proceed to the body of the mission. They would use their own talents to minister in the most effective way. The mission would probably last 7-8 weeks.
After the mission there would be a one week follow-up back at base camp to have time to readjust, to weather, time etc. and give them a chance to spend a few last days with eachother. This time would also be used to evaluate the experiance and discuss improvement, growth, etc.
Catholic Youth Missions would be founded completely in the ROMAN CATHOLIC DOCTRINE, I have researched and found several companies similair to this but they are all non-denominational or Protestant. I am hoping to add an option for Catholic youth wishing to witness to the beliefs that are not held by some Christian denominations.
There would also be oppurtunities to recieve Reconciliation and attend daily mass and Eucharistic Adoration, oppurtunities that a Catholic may not have with other missions.
Again this is a company that is at least four years away, probably six.
This company will probably originate in the Black Hills of South Dakota for a few reasons.
1) Most oppurtunities for me to cheapy establish business through contacts I know.
2) I can work with the people from the Diocese that I know.
3) Central location in the country.
4) Relatively mild summers.
5) Higher elevation to help people from low-elevations adjust without to much of a health risk (some visitors actually do get elevation sickness but it passes quickly).
I hope anyone who thinks there is a need for a program like this will post with suggestions. Also if you were interested in helping establish this program I would like to hear from you!

I enjoyed your video. It was very inspiring. You would probably fit in well with the teens who help at our mission in Connecticut.
