Another European festival show from 1998. A total of 3 songs were videotaped for airing; Hook, A Perfect Day Elise and Meet Ze Monsta. The latter two can be found elsewhere on youtube.
This song is loosely based upon an early 1900's song which I don't recall the title of, but was kind of folksy and genteel sounding. Certainly much different in tone than PJ's 'Hook', but clearly, the lyrical content of that song served as a starting point for this one. Apparently, the song was at least somewhat popular back in that era. In it, there were lyrical references to a 'Kathleen' and how 'I'll take you to where fields are green', or something like that. Taken as a whole, there are too many lyrical similarities for it NOT to serve as a basis of starting inspiration. But then Polly turns the song on it's ear. Much darker, but also with it's humourous elements.
oh for pete's sake...! the fact that i can list off a good sized number of her songs goodnight, driving, reeling, teclo, water, fountain that are all just one word songs, shows that in fact i listen to pj harvey a LOT. i was saying nothing about the actual songs, just the names!

Obviously you don't listen to Pj Harvey very often at all.
All of her songs are great, and actually all are also very different!
