  • matt, did you happen to sell your sigma 17-50 OS? I thought you said it is THAT GOOD? why?

    source: from your blog

  • @ricstars95 - No, I still have my Sigma 17-50 OS. Use it all the time. I will most likely be selling my Canon mount version as I'm selling off my current Canon gear.

  • I Own The Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 VC and it is very sharp at F4

Focus is snappy great build quality i like it and i don't regret the money i spent!

  • @xIIIxViperxIIIx - But as an f2.8 lens, the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 VC should be sharp at f2.8. :-(

  • are you a thomas hogan fanboy :)

  • @TheSupasimon - Yup! :-)

  • Just about every review disagrees with your anti Tamron claims. Extremely so in fact.

  • another good video man keep them up

  • Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 "non VC" sharp as tack don't get the VC version

  • that was helpful = ) ty

  • I have a Tamron 17-50 also non VC and its a very good lens for my D7000. I believed the softer version is the one with the VC. Most of friend photographers are using the non VC version because of its sharpness.

  • And what is your opinion if u compare this tamron 17-50mm f2.8 to canon 17-40mm f4L?

  • I bought a Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD IF Lens a year ago for my Nikon D90.

There's a problem with the auto focus where it can only auto focus the first time and not

subsequently. Though this doesn't happen everytime but almost.

When I power off my camera body and turn back on again, the auto focus works again.

I've tried searching the internet for solutions but can't find any.

In the end, I sold off the lens though it's a sharp piece.

  • Just to ask, was it the Tamron 17-50mm VC (IS/OS variant) you had soft copies of? As a non-VC owner, I can say that it's a very sharp lens at all apertures. The general consensus is that the VC version is a weaker lens.

  • Very confusing, first you say that its the canon thats to soft then you correct yourself to tamron, then you say canon at the end..

  • Great video, thanks. Very helpful and informative. What do you think of Sigma's quality control? I am thinking of getting the Sigma 17-50 2.8 OS and am concerned that I might end up with a not-so-good copy. You mentioned you have two copies - have you encountered any inconsistencies between different copies of this lens? Thanks!
