Feeding Rocky

Cataracts hasn't stopped the Blind 'Too from functioning as a normal bird. Well, normal for him, anyway. We have a bit of a tradition that started before he lost his sight: he waited for me to hand the first piece of food to him. I don't know how that started, but now that he doesn't see we have continued that tradition with one minor change....

Do you know if surgery can help his sight?

There are no guarantees that it will be successful, or that the cataracts won't return. It's expensive, and there's always a risk putting a bird under anestesia. The vets told me that he's not suffering or in harms way, and he's very healthy and content, so the recommendation was to not try it. When I asked about it, he thought I was pushing for it and was trying to talk me out of it, that sold me.

He is so calm. Was he like this before he lost his sight, or has it made him more docile? He must love and trust you completely.

He's been very calm and quiet most of the time I've had him, but I can tell after losing his sight he's become a little more trusting of me - and somewhat less trusting of others.

I think he can learn to trust others with time and patience, but he wants to be sure that they won't hurt him. He came from a bad environment so there may be some lingering memories from the past, but overall he's just docile. thanks...
