mmmm, very interesting.
Yet another example of fractals within data.
There is a good amount of data on the cotton market for the last few hundred years. The mathematician, Benoit Mandlebrot (the mandlebrot-set of fractal geometry) found that the over all ups and downs of the sale, purchase and production graphs followed a pattern which was self similar over varying scales. Meaning the overall image of the 2hundred years could be neatly fit over a graph depicting a smaller cycle within the data.

@artynz I found this video informative and I have heard this information before from very reputable sources. But please, and this goes to ANYONE who wants their information to be trusted: Don't use wikipedia as a source. I go to wikipedia to learn about things like you do, but it's not a water tight source and has been known to have falsifyed information due to the nature of it's creation. Again, I trust you, but don't cite wikipedia.

@artynz are there any other mysterious blips? Maybe there are sapient species that have gone before us.

Is it not interesting that the squirrel survived the last mass extinction, it is actually 34 M years old.

great video, thanks for sharing

Not too sure about that. Though I believe nature may have ways of curing (sp) population growth. All systems seem to strive to attain balance and I doubt Earth is any different. Some interesting videos there. A bit too complicated for me though.
Things are dying, plants animals & people in natural disasters! what people fail to understand is the Co2 from exhausts & factories is not the worst bit! exhausts emit poison! amonia being one! gravity! what goes up must come down! fumes go up cool come down in the rain poison the plants & soil & water (which we are consuming!) & slowly poisoning us all! Co2 has good & bad effects Poison! does not! open your eyes people! data wont prove or disprove this! not enough data to prove :o(

@ThePianaman Yes, humans are making far too many toxic substances which will be around doing damage for a long time. There is a great emphasis on creating extra energy sources. We don't need more energy. We need to stop wasting energy on pointless things.

Nothing to recent then? That's good.

No mass extinctions predicted (on this cycle) for quite some time. But some scientists say we are in a mass extinction now due to human activity. Very sad.

According to wikipedia the present rate of extinction is 100 to 1000 times the normal background rate. So yes, humans are having an effect which will be a mysterious blip in any future cycles analysis.
