@DBPHuguenot God speed my friend. My youngest, of four to serve, enters the US Marines Corps in two weeks. He will probably be joining you in that part of the world at some point. If you two should happen to meet over there, I hope, at least, it's not on a professional basis. But if it should be so, I'm certain, he couldn't be in better hands.
Thank you, Sir, for reminding me of that wonderful line "and all we asked ...." And to the British and Commonwealth nations, thank you. It's time that we in the west acknowledge brave Russia for it's amazing heroism in WWII.
As a Trauma Doc, I still serve (Col., US Army). It's back to Afghanistan in a few weeks. I try to get as close to where I'm needed most, and have been honored to serve US, UK, Canadian, and European partners. Anyway, thanks for helping remind me why we serve.
@mota307 Never before, in the history of man has there been such a nation who was willing to sacrifice so much for others, not of their flag. As we’ve liberated millions around the world, we’ve left them with their new found freedom, and asked but one thing in return: a place of honor to lay our hallowed dead.
You can save your misguided and misplaced cynicism, or better still, just say thanks, for lest you forget, we’ve been there for your countrymen a time or two as well.
@mota307 well...we can agree that this piece of music is truly moving and put our different political views aside and still converse as friends. Good luck to you in whatever you do. Remember life is short and over before you realise it...savour it.
@tripsadelica thanks for trying to make me feel young again, i suppose youth can be looked at relatively. the first sentence was a movie quote and what I meant was i disagree with the notion that the USA is a beacon of freedom. unfortunately, i have very dim views on America. the way i see it, America has been a destructive force right from its inception up until the present day, actually even more so nowadays due to it's imminent decline. so i respectfully disagree with your views on America.
@mota307 I don't quite follow what you mean but I'm glad you liked this piece. I note from your profile that you are 29 years old. You lucky young fellow. Try to understand the standpoint of us older folk who remember the sacrifice made by troops from the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States made in vanquishing Hitler and his madness. Without the contribution of the US Hitler would have won the war...don't be too influenced by modern anti-US sentiments.
I'd love to see the British also adopt this beautiful piece to remember their fallen. It would be spine tingling
