House of Musical Traditions in Takoma Park, MD (just outside of Washington DC) is a dealer for Deering Banjos. Here we have Mark Sylvester, one of our banjo teachers, demonstrating the Deering Vega Senator 5-string banjo.
Over 100 years of Vega tradition and Deerings innovative approach to banjo crafting went into the creation of this Vega Senator model. This Senator is fashioned as an open back banjo with spun brass hoop and rod tone-ring which brightens the tone and creates the brilliance often desired in stage performance. The Senator has the time-honored Vega peghead profile, and a rich warm brown stained rock maple neck with adjustable truss rod and a multi-ply rim with dual coordinator rods. The hard, dense, colorful, exotic and naturally beautiful ebony fingerboard is inlaid with mother-of-pearl dots, and a Vega star at the fifth fret. The Renaissance head and no-knot tailpiece enhance the sound of this banjo, characterized as a full woody tone with beautiful sparkle of clarity and note definition as desired by both the clawhammer /old-timey banjo player and bluegrass player.
This open back Vega Senator has the ease of playability that all Deering banjos are noted for, and the light weight sought after by many banjo players without sacrificing sound quality and sustain.
Bluegrass players, dont rule this one out because it doesnt have a resonator! If youre a bluegrass player looking for a lighter-weight banjo, take a serious look at this one. The tone ring gives it a lot of punch and youll be surprised at the volume youll get even without a resonator. And of course this is great for old-time/clawhammer style as well.
Retail price on the Senator is $1,994 including hardshell case. To inquire about our discounted price and availability, contact House of Musical Traditions at hmtmail@hmtrad.com or 301-270-9090. Visit our website at www.musicaltraditions.com.
