  • were 4 minute reproducers also avalable for this attachment ?

  • No, the Polyphone was rendered obsolete by molded wax cylinders. The original purpose was loud playback; molded cylinders offered that with no gimmicks. The Polyphone was ancient history long before 4 minute cylinders came on the market.

  • How well does the biophone play? I just watched the film "My fair lady" and I was suprised at how many phonographs were used in the movie and none of them were fake. I guess this is because real machines were much cheaper in the 60s. Sounds great! Is the polyphone carriage origional?

    Thanks

  • The Polyphone carriage is completely original.

I will upload a video of the Biophone one of these days. It works only passably well. The sound is excellent but the power transmission is so inefficient that it's hard to get through an entire record. It was a silly concept!

  • I suppose this would cause the cylinder to wear out quicker having 2 stylii.

  • I'm 14, and just got my first Cylinder phonograph, an Edison Home phonograph for 30 dollars. At first it wasn't working but I fixed the motor. I hope one day I build a collection even half of yours.

  • Great job! Kind of like disc phonos that had two horns to capture sound from both sides of the sound-box.

What is the cylinder playing here?

  • Rene,

    Great video.

Could you PLEASE upload a video of the Amet Echophone

    Thanks

  • So this in effect a completely analogue stereo delay.

  • What horns have better sound? The early smaller ones, the big, majestic ones of later years, or the ones tucked in like a victrola?

  • 1898's equivalent of the boom box, too cool :)

  • That is very nice! How much did it cost?

  • It's stereo soudn on the phonograph!

    LOL
