  • I've got one of those antenna's about 4 years ago. Works better than OK...but for the price I was expecting BETTER quality on/off and hi-med-low switches than the cheapo radio shack variety used. Have you looked at the solder joints in your Antenna? Mine looks like a KID soldered it together. And the Black Plastic (actual antenna) isn't very square on the edges :) But it DOES pull in the stations. I'm going to look into that receiver you have (looks cool). I use a Sony SW55

  • I had try Palstar R30 with different MW antennas and I still thinking Quantum loop is excellent antenna. It is working from concrete building in city substitute long wire.

Today is not many companies make MW antennas and if they are make them than antennas more expensive than Quantum loop. I compare my favorite receiver Sony EX-5MK2 and I think it is really good DXing machine for those who don’t want to spend a lot of money for expensive toys.

  • Interested in MW (AM) Dxing ? Check out the National Radio Club ! This Club has HUNDREDS of folks that enjoy this type of DX . You can really learn from some of the advanced members about pulling out those unheard stations ! Lots of fun .

  • Works great with Yaesu FT817. I ordered the 1800-7000 kHz Tropical loop since AM MW QRM terrible here. Can hear 4096 kHz "HiFER" beacons from hundreds of miles away, easily. It even works with wideband scanners as the Yaesu VR120D/VR500 rigs, and great with the Sangean ATS505 SWL rig.

  • That's KUGN-AM 590 kHz

  • valobou--Thanks for the nice words and demo.

Response to XRayCam: I make the Quantum Loops and I'd like to respond. The toggle switches have a MTBF of 100,000 operations (I've replaced 1 since 1985). Of the 1,000's of loops sold over 20+ years, failure rate: <1/4%; I burn-in (36+ hours) and bench test each loop and transistors are hand-picked. The loops are hand soldered (not dipped) and carefully examined. The Plexiglas (not cheap PVC) heads are custom-made and cost me $20+. Out of room...
