This is a follow on to my PS3 Slim Problem video. Sorry for lack of a commentary but I am not a confident speaker. That and I hate the sound of my recorded voice!

First time I switched on this morning, I got the PS3 boot screen and chime, but then I just got a yellow XMB background and the sparklies with nothing else. No response from either the controller, remote or power button (which does beep when pressed).

Oddly, with regards to the yellow XMB background, it became present last night even though my profile was set to a blue background.

I had watched all four episodes of the House Season 2 Disc 4 UK boxset and after finishing pressed stop and eject on the remote to finish up. That was the first time I had any major problems with the console, I got a yellow XMB background with no XMB, shown in my previous video. Usage time must have been about 3.5hrs, which is not the longest spell I had used it for. Unit was very warm to touch all over the underside, the rear, and the rear of the topside, which is apparently normal.

Console was bought new on launch day, updated to firmware 3.00 then 3.01. No modifications of any sort, standard 120gig HDD. Had the occasional brief HDMI cutout problem but nothing else (except Uncharted freezes which were fixed with FW3.01).

Now the unit fails to even boot to an XMB background, and again is unresponsive. Can only be switched off by removing power lead. Have no idea why the problem occurred and what it is, possibly HDD failure followed by something else.

Bad luck I guess, will be taking it back to shop for replacement but have now lost all my saved game data for Killzone 2, Resistance 2, MotorStorm:PR and Uncharted - highly frustrating.

Update: have returned it to the store and got a new one. They confirmed that I am not the only one to have had this issue. Hopefully it's a rarity and I just got unlucky, I don't want to lose my saves again.
