@ccr5cxcr4 how long does this crap survive if its not in your body. i always get nervous when i go to the bar and the girl who makes my drink gets cold soars. or even if at macdobalds the person who hands me my food has a cut on there hand. I only sleep with someone who i know real well and is tested and i dont share needles so is there like any chance in hell of me getting it.

@Teddybeer42 ur the dumb one. you cannot get hiv by having unprotected sex. it can occur in other ways of sharing live blood with an infected person. and hiv makes it easier for the infected person to get other diseases...
Yeah, we saw images in regular old Micro class last semester. Intresting stuff. But yeah if I saw it in class, any credible scientist working in the field should know about that already. How would everyone feel about a drug that modifies our own cd4 receptors so that gp120 cant link up? Would you feel odd altering your own cells? Or would you consider it a viable cure?

They are looking at the possibility of blocking CCR5, or genetically modifying the stem cells to alter CCR5 (artificially producing a mutation similar to the CCR5 delta 32 mutation).
The idea of modifying my genome gives me the creeps. I would prefer to use something like a MAB to block CCR5. If bad side effects start showing up, you can always withdraw therapy. If you change the genome, then you are stuck with the change.
