Survivors, families, and activists commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Bhopal industrial disaster on Thursday, Dec 3, 2009 with a march that culminated at the shuttered Union Carbide pesticide plant at the center of the scandal. On Dec 3, 1984 huge clouds of toxic methyl isocyanate gas leaked from the plant, spreading toxic plumes throughout the city of Bhopal and surrounding areas. 20,000 people were killed in the disaster, nearly 600,000 people were left with permanent injuries, illnesses, or deformities.
