Doc Pawsitive, Clair Thompson, "Leader of the Pack" at East Stroudsburg Veterinary Hospital and PAWS/Pocono Animal Wellness Services believes in the benefits of well run animal shelters providing a temporary home for homeless, unwanted, lost and stray pets on the way into adoptive homes or even temporary foster placements. Our friend Barry Heim is the Director of Pike County Humane Society, an example of a well run animal shelter where they hold lots of regular adoption events, on-site and off-site to showcase their pets up for adoption. Doc Pawsitive believes in the "power of the pack" with dog behavior and really likes the large, roomy, completely fenced-in outdoor play areas at Pike County Humane Society(PCHS) for the dogs to run, roam and play in normal pack groups, which is stimulating for the dogs, ensures exercise and socialization with other dogs and helps increase their suitablity for adoptions. Running an organization like PCHS depends on community support, lots of donations including money and supplies, a large pool of volunteer help and support from the veterinary community as well. East Stroudsburg Veterinary Hospital and PAWS have been working closely with PCHS for the past couple years helping to provide their animals with lower cost spay and neuter surgery on a weekly basis. Doc Pawsitive has even helped participate in animal transport with Barry and his team. With the help of volunteer employees from our veterinary hospitals, Dr Clair and Dr Sammie also regularly participate in low cost community vaccination clinics to provide lower cost services to the communities served by PCHS. These Low Cost Vaccine Clinics are necessary to ensure all people have access to basic veterinary care and also are a major source of fund raising for PCHS. Finally, Doc Pawsitive loves his job as a veterinarian and loves the opportunity to "play Doctor" and help out a great group such as Pike County Humane Society!
