'Nation of Cowards'

Attorney General Eric Holder says America has yet to come to grips with its racial past.


What's unfortunate is that Attorney General Eric Holder's "nation of cowards" comment stole attention away from an otherwise brilliant speech.

I have been going back and forth on this for days, and I now believe that he should have chosen his words more wisely. Sometimes people try to motivate others by issuing insults - kind of like the high school football coach or the military drill sargeant or the personal trainer calling you a fat slob.

Mainstream America is not aware of the amount of tough love that many Black people grew up experiencing which we later learned to appreciate. This is one of the reasons why Jeremiah Wright is so villified by the White community.

But in this case, I think his comment was a little over the top, even though I support his overall message.

Eric Holder, the Attorney General's job is to prosecute criminals. We don't need you to lecture America on race relations. When you show that you can overcome the incompetance, witlessness and haplessness you've brought to the disclosure of top secret memos, the KSM trial, the closing of Guantanamo in particular and the War on Terror in general, be careful whom you call a coward.

A coward is a man that does not take responsibility for his actions. This man was supposed to be held in contempt of congress for lying about operation fast and furious and operation gunrunner. He had the nerve to ask the President for an executive pardon and you know the worst part about it? He was actually granted that pardon.
