@FSXairpilot In all fairness you really can't compare the Valkyrie to a 747. They both serve different purposes.

Not a bad bit of work for 1964! For all of those who doubt we made it to the moon,the SR-71 could almost make it into low earth orbit by this time. We had the technology by '69,scary,yes, but we did it. Luckily the XB-70 had a reasonably long life in collecting high speed aircraft data and ended up being a valuable tool before it was retired, it still is a magnificent machine.

The problem with the Valkyrie was that they spent so much time trying to get it to go Mach 3, they forgot it had to carry bombs.

I'm still awed by these airplanes. And I got to see a lot of first-flight footage before anybody else! My neighbor was a filmmaker who contracted w/ the Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB to film documentary footage, including some of what's in this video. Heady stuff for a fourteen-year-old airplane junkie!

@jrcadet4 Yes, i am too. Planes like this really died young so many young people today don't really care about these types of planes. I think This Plane is not only elegant by the way it looks, but it is elegant by the way it gets to mach 3. It makes the boeing 747 look like a big fat pig
