Its pronounced ... "KERN" not "KWERN" - these stones orginated in India and Persia (now Iran). The "perforations" are called "dressings".

Is it possible to use the quern to grind sesame seeds (high in oil content) into tahini which is sesame seed paste. Would it be possible to do so without heating the sesame seeds? Heating the sesame seed will denature the nutrient content and make the oil rancid.

@omedlar ...not to sure mate .it would be possible..it would be cold enough ....but the rifles in this stone would be to coarse
