Michael Lynch of Boyne City, Mich., examined the amount of potential moose habitat available in Luce and Chippewa counties. The study site was located one mile south of the Tahquamenon river mouth, near an already known moose population. His experiment was to determine if reintroductions of moose into the Eastern Upper Peninsula would be effective based on the habitat available. Reintroductions of moose could help to raise the moose population and ultimately open a moose hunting season which would help to attract tourists. His data determined that the area of interest was moderate habitat for moose populations, which in the growing season could support up to seven moose and throughout the whole year it could support one moose.
