"Without accepting the mantra or initiation from a representative of a bonafide sampradaya, they have no effect."

@NITAAIGAURA The mahamantra is absolute and therefore independent of one's adhikara it has effect. Or so I was taught. Is it not so? Of course it's potency can be more perfectly realized by advanced souls, but whether one is initiated or not, won't it still be effective?

@zzzabzz You are right. The holy name of the Lord, being identical with the Lord Himself, is absolute and does not depend on any rituals or purificatory ceremonies to manifest its potency. But we are not absolute and therefore in order to receive a proper connection we need to do this via the medium of guru, pure devotee, who will empower us to chant the Name offenselessly and thus receive the real benefit of chanting, namely krishna-prema or Love of God.
