what a fine idea...i was sort of half way there on my long rambles doing nothing but now someone has said it - it means so much more.

Sounds pretty normal. I do the same. The last few years, of course, have been pretty mellow.
Two of my windows have glorious trees, and I spend a great deal of time watching them. (You've seen them, actually.) My problem now is how to forcibly re-integrate myself into the far more demanding world.

It's really hard at first to allow yourself that kind of relaxation. Our whole life is structured to avoid those "blank" moments. I should warn you, however, that once you master it, it becomes addictive.
You were right after all: we have nothing in common!

I find that my life tends to go in cycles. I start to get more into that kind of relaxation when I've become so burned out that I can hardly do anything else. Then my energy level gradually revives, and after a few months or a few years, I get more and more distracted by all the things that I'm able to do, and eventually I get burned out again.
