*The beginning of the video got cut off*

Embarrassing to admit, this is almost my 3rd year training in wushu. Based on what I see in this video, I need some serious help!

I have many flaws, and I'm aware that I have a lot to work on. Corrections are greatly appreciated. If you're going to tell me I suck, please also explain why.

  • how actually we can build up our jumping skill ar? i'm a newbie for wushu, my jumping skill very bad no matter how hard i train it. especially the xuan feng tui, i cant even do nicely.... got other method can train this?

  • If you want to improve your jumping skill, then you're watching the wrong video. This was back when I couldn't even do a front jump kick. =P

But if you take a look at my xuan feng jiao video, you can see that I've improved. I think the "jumping skill" comes from understanding how to carry your momentum. I'm getting a little better at it bit by bit. You just have to keep trying until you feel that you're throwing your body up.

I hope that helped, and good luck! =)

  • pay attention to the plane that the sword is moving on. when you cut or slice, the edge of the blade needs to be parallel to the plane on which it's cutting.

same goes for all stabs. the length of the blade must follow the tip on a plane perpendicular to the direction of the stab.

  • I didn't notice until you mentioned.

    Thank you!

  • Thanks. This recording is really old, and I have been working on my jumping skills. I don't have a recent straightsword video, but you can see that my jumping basics are better in my more recent videos. =)

  • practise slow, very slow. then add power to the movements, but stay slow. try to get rid of unneeded movements, and try to enter 100% stable into the stances without any need to correct balance. straight sword has to be minimalistic IMHO.

very good work, looking forward to see more :-)

  • so elegant!

  • where'd you get that black jacket from?

  • Again......I agree with invibe. On the otherhand, I must give you credit, making the sword cut on a parrallel plane can be tough with a flimsy wushu sword. Just remember the old saying " A weapon is just an extension of your own arm" Ponder that quote. You did great though. I enjoyed it! Here is a quote by my grandmaster " The four sects of martial arts are...Practice,practice,practice, and more practice!"....keep 'em coming!

  • I have noticed that you want to do every single move as fast as you can. You have to stay calm. Patience is very important :)

And you don't look at what you're doing. Most of the time you have to look at the same direction as your sword.

    Good luck!
