This 1955 Star Chief was actually built on the same A-Body platform as the '55 Chevrolet, with a 7 inch longer wheelbase, and a standard 287-cube V8 as powerful (180 hp) as the hottest engine Chevy put in its regular cars. You could also get a 200 hp option, which included dual exhausts and a 4-barrel Quadrajet carb.
GM didn't yet market Pontiacs as performance cars (they were sold as upscale cars for the Chevy market) but some NASCAR drivers figured it out and started racing' em.

My dad almost bought this exact car, the same year, make, model, colors, everything. That would've been something.
