A very good samurai film. If you're not into samurais, the sword play is magnificent! Definitely a good one to watch.
As far as story goes, I couldn't rate it that high, but it is one of those type of action movies, that you'll just be astonished by. Very worth watching.

@Briselance Hirate was actually a character in the original Zatoichi series, a samurai hired by a rival gang. He and Zatoichi become friends, and although Ichi tries to convince HIrate he is only a masseur, Hirate isn't fooled. Hirate however is dying of tuberculosis, and as he would retain his honor by being killed by another samurai instead of thugs, challenges Zatoichi to a duel. Zatoichi breaks down and weeps after the duel.

Hirate ? You mean the ronin whose wife commits suicide just after we see her husband getting killed by Zatoichi ?

I like this one better then KILL BILL. Sorry Quentin but leave the sword play to the pros. I still like tarantino but Kitano knows how to do a samurai film!!
