This is a quick and dirty tutorial for beginers on how to set up an FMC and takeoff.
We will configure the CDU-FMC to takeoff from KSEA RWY 34R, fly to an FMC leg we will program
to a point 10 miles NW of PAINE, WA.

This is demonstrated on a WILCO FeelThere 737 PIC in FSX, it however, applies to:

B737-300 through 500
B737NG 600 through 900
B747
B757
B767
B777

The tutorial part I consists of:
Step a. Collect the following info: (I've done it for you)
1. DEP airport - KSEA
2. DEST airport - KSEA
3. Cruise ALT - 5000
4. Take-Off flaps - 5°
5. Cost Index - 99
6. Fuel Reserves - 2
7. Zero Fuel Weight - depends on aircraft, fuel, payload, etc.
8. Planned Route. - KSEA to PAE to SEA
Step b. LOAD the CDU/FMC
Step c. Config flight controls
step d. Setup the MCP

in part II we fly the profile

in part III
We continue flying the profile:

1st - We will Turn around.
2nd - Install the approach and fly the RWY 16L ILS CAT III profile to a full stop on the RWY.

This video looks best in HD and full screen.

Note: FYI, if you have a current approach plate and an outdated AIRAC the information in your FMC may not

coincide with the app plate. Case in point in this tutorial. I used the default AIRAC (2006) that comes

included with the plane and a current July 2010 app-plate. The APP course is 163° in SEA (SEATTLE TACOMA

INTL) app-plate, but is 162° in the oudated AIRAC the FMC is using. How to update AIRAC is beyond the scope

of this tutorial. Please read your aircraft's manual.

  • To Capt : PUA 687 How do I open the FMC/CDU page /Window on my Boeing 737 instrument panel?????? Is this an Add On Feature , Sir.?

  • @v6n4m0d4 The aircraft I’m using and demonstrating is an addon aircraft from WILCO Publishing: ‘The Boeing 737PIC’

Unfortunately, none of the default aircraft simulate the FMC/CDU. If you're asking how to open the CDU in Wilco's 737, there is an icon in the main display labeled FMC used for that purpose.

  • IS THIS MICRO SOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR X ???

  • @v6n4m0d4 yes

  • I haven't used my FSX in many months and started again a week ago however I found that I had mostly forgotten the little I had already learned on the 737 PIC aircraft I was even unable to sort out programming the simple Seattle loop and daunted at the thought of starting all over again then I came across your videos, a wealth of useful information which answered most of the basic questions I had when learning from Mike Rays' manuals. Thank you so much

  • @leather10uk Thanks, I appreciate your comment. I’m glad you found the videos useful. Happy landings!.

  • worked my way through your 3 ~737 tutorials and I don't like admitting will be using them as a permanent referance to the 737. I have the Mike Ray manuals for the Airbus and the Boeing 700 series < he's good Mr Ray but I have just attended Mr or Miss PUA687's finishing school. Forever grateful ...cheers a 61 year old rookie

  • @1940celtic Set IAS speed to 200; that will always work.

Turn the autopilot on at or above 800 ft AGL

After you take off concentrate in maintaining 12.5 degrees of pitch attitude. Wait for the pink flight director bars to settle close to the 12.5 degrees you are holding. DO NOT CHASE the flight director bars. At or above 800ft engage the autopilot, then LNAV, then VNAV.

When you have a positive rate of climb raise the landing gear. Start retracting flaps as indicated on the speed tape.

  • @PUA687 HI AGAIN..just a couple of questions again,,when programming this flight i get a bit confused when you set the IAS speeds at take off..in the MCU where you say V1 +15 =155,,,,then .you say at V2 = 200 so which one do i set?

also at which point do i turn on the a/pilot..... and do i manually set the LNAV AND VNAV..... THANKS......
