Artist: Opeth
Album: Heritage
Song Title: Famine
Year: 2011
Track 7

Lyrics:
I can't see your face
And I can't breathe your air
So I wonder why I get cold inside
When I hear your name
When we meet eye to eye
I will ask how and why
And when guilt has its way
One lesser reason to stay
And I will see her cry
Into the fire of our youth comes the devil again
And you feel your way, feel your way
Saw you standing nigh
In the corner
Told me that you had died
And I would die when my heart was empty
Become a ghost in perpetual void
And neglect all reasons why

Track 7 from Opeth's 2011 album release, Heritage. This is one of the cooler songs off the album and I can't believe it's not out on YouTube. YET. Enjoy.

If you like doom metal and Jethro Tull then the breakdown at 4:39 is your kind of cookie. A melodic jazz organ, a fluttering flute and a very raw sounding guitar riff all played in this slow and intense fashion.

I don't own the rights to this song. I'm only saying this so you YouTube folks don't report the video and call it back for some kind of copyright infringement, not that I think it'll work, but it's worth a shot.

  • Am I the only one who thinks that the flute solo is nothing but weak? I thought this Björn J:son Lindh is supposed to be a prodigy on this instrument?

  • @ciffi

Just because you're considered a prodigy with the flute doesn't mean you have to solo without restraint to prove it - or with any instrument for that matter. Simplicity and patience shows true skill in a musician.

  • The album wasn't meant to have death growls..Personally I can't stop listening to it. It's a great album and a nice change.

  • @yaxxbass Sir knows what he's talkin about

  • @bodomlad I haven't worked out how to play it yet, but by listening, I think it's in Drop D.

  • I love the Flute at the end during the doom riff :D

  • @superman2261919 I don't like it as much as their other stuff, but like it or hate it, Opeth are masters of their craft.

  • @ciffi Weak? As opposed to what? Blowing as hard as possible into the thing? WHERE in the fuck do you ever see flutes played like that? Silly, silly internet person. Hahahahaa. It PERFECTLY offfsets the riff and ADDS to it. Jaysus. HOW HARD is this to comprehend??!

  • @MetallHead9 Reminds me of much heavier jethro tull, especially the sound of the organ & the presence of flute.

  • love the new album but i am wondring will they do one album with nothing but black metal or death thats what i want to know other than that amzing new album i hope the keep up the good work going to see Opeth, Mastodon and Ghost on may 3rd cant wait! :D
