Here is "The Cruel Sea" by The Ventures. I'm playing the 1965 Live in Japan version with the more aggressive guitar sound rather than the studio version, although my sound is probably more aggressive than even that. I'm using a Mosrite Mark I 1966 reissue guitar. The guitar tone is completely from a custom setting I programmed using my Line 6 POD HD500 unit. This is recorded direct into my video camera's line in.

  • Hi Good job

Not sure if you know this or not, but every song on the Live in Japan 65 album is cranked up way faster than they normally played those songs

They had to cram a ton of tunes into a short performance and so they boosted the tempo way up on all the tunes

It's not my least favorite Ventures album because of that.

I do a regular tempo version of this song on my YouTube channel

Check it out if you get time

    see ya

  • @EL34XYZ I personally think they sounded their best from the mid-60's to early 70's. The 65 live album is my favorite. I love the aggressive much more overdriven sound and model my Venture's tone after it. Prior to hearing it, I didn't think the Ventures were that good.

    Ooops, mispelled Tone

I meant to say, I like the tone on that album also

It is just how tube amps sound when they are pushed hard

Pickups can do that and loud volume levels can do that

    See ya

  • @jalveste

Yes, I like the ton on the album also

Th thing I don't like is how they sped everything up way faster just to cram all the tunes into the performance

That and the announcer telling long stories between each tune

It interesting what different people like.

    To each his own ehhh?

See ya and keep playing the surf instrumentals

  • So cool!

    Keep it :D

  • 100% PURE BAD-ASS. Nice job.

  • Nice tone! Good job!
